To Our Valued Authors and Poets,

Over the last few weeks, we have been monitoring the evolving COVID-19 health situation. The health and well-being of our employees is our primary concern. As a result, effective March 18, 2020, we have temporarily closed our office. Phones will not be answered during this time; if possible, please contact us by email (poetryinstitute@shaw.ca). We will only be corresponding by email until the office re-opens. Letter mail will still be collected and processed. Our employees are working from home during this time and production continues with our ongoing and upcoming contests/anthologies.

Status on Contests:

Open Ages Poetry & Adult Creative Writing Contests 2019

Proof sheets are still being sent out via email or letter mail; the final editing and proofing process is underway. We’d hoped for these anthologies to be printed and published in late February as planned, however we are running behind schedule so we’re now anticipating late April to early May.

Young Writers Poetry Contest 2019-2020

Contest results had been mailed out to schools and individuals in February and early March. Proof sheets will be sent out shortly, starting in April. We’re striving to have these anthologies published and shipped to schools as planned before schools are closed for summer break, however due to the ongoing school closures we may have to publish the anthologies later than scheduled. As this is an ever-changing situation, we will keep you updated, and we guarantee that everyone who has placed an order will receive it even if that means shipping directly to home addresses instead of schools.

Young Writers Creative Writing Contest 2020

We had extended the contest submission deadline from March 15th to March 31st, however due to school closures and the ongoing COVID-19 health situation, the contest submission deadline has been further extended to May 1st. We may continue to extend as needed. We do not want any young writer, teacher, class, or school to be excluded due to the circumstances.

Open Ages Poetry & Adult Creative Writing Contests 2020

The contest submission deadline for these contests remains July 31, 2020, however we will likely extend it as needed.

NOTE: If possible, please submit your entries electronically by email or by fax, in an effort to limit exposure to the public. We accept scanned documents, pictures/images of entries, Microsoft Word documents, and PDFs. We are still accepting mailed submissions.

We appreciate the supportive attitude of our customers, and we continue to work hard to complete and publish the anthologies that showcase your fine works. Thank you for your continued patience as we all work through this unprecedented situation together.
